What the hell is wrong with our country. The situation that preceedes the general elections in India has got to be the most ridiculuos of all the events that has ever taken place in the history of elections, any place, an day , EVER. the Supreme Court of India today overrruled Sanjay Dutt's grounds to contest the Indian elections, ehereas it is a known fact that people with concrete criminal backgrounds, can hold a ticket like it s a backstage pass. This is the height of polarity and a perfect example of the horse blinder effect.Take UP for example, the number of contestants with criminal background is only going up by the second, and not surprisingly, it has to be Mayawati s BSP who seems to grab the lead. Having a thirst for power is a good thing, but to put it complete criminal warlords in the fray to lead to country, all i gotta say is, the country is fucked up as it is, are we gonna screw it further by putting lawbreakers in the driver's seat????
I just saw one example on TV , and though it is not related to mayawati, here it goes...
Indra Pratap Tiwari AKA Khabbu Tiwari, , the Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate contesting the Ayodhya seat, has a number of criminal cases registered against him, yet he has found favour with Samajwadi Party President and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
"There are many candidates who have cases against them, we have the information and I can provide you with the list of those having criminal history. I will give you the details regarding how many cases have been against them, in how many they have been acquitted and where trial has been going on," said Ashutosh Pandey, SSP of Faizabad,UP.
When asked about his criminal record, Tiwari said his opponents should spend their time looking at their drawbacks.
"Almost all the cases are over, and only a few are left. Those who allege that I have have criminal cases against my name, should once give a look to what they have been doing," Tiwari claimed.
Interestingly, Tiwari has been acquitted in six cases and rest 15 still remain to be decided, which includes those related with murder, attempt to murder, theft, violation of the Gunda Act and many more.
There are 138 people with criminal backgrounds contesting the polls in the sixth phase in Uttar Pradesh. Elections in this phase are being held in 52 constituencies across nine districts. Seven hundred and eighty five candidates are in the poll fray.
As a matter of fact, according to a study by Election Watch, an NGO headed by retired director general of police IC Dwivedi, the assembly election of 2002 had a total of 506 contestants with criminal antecedents.
Is this the next way to promote INDIA SHINING ??? I THINK NOT.
For God's sake, if you have any moral bone in your body, VOTE and dont abstain, because every vote does count. And If you do, for the love of GOD, dont wont for criminals.
